Gone are the days when the only skincare products you needed to be aware of were cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Don’t get us wrong, these stalwarts still play an important role in the health of your skin. Arguably the two most important, and ever-popular, skin boosting treatments out there are serums and oils.
But what’s the difference between these two skin-rejuvenating powerhouses and why/how/when should you include them in your routine? Let’s take a look …
Face oils all have one thing in common – they do not contain water. They're all about strengthening and protecting your skin’s barrier. Unfortunately, your barrier function gets worn down with age, harsh cleansing and exposure to everyday life which is why it needs looking after and replenishing with topical skincare. And this is where face oils come to the rescue.
Many oils mimic your skin’s natural oils, which makes them super friendly to most skin types, and also helps them to work ‘with’ your skin. Encouraging your skin to function as it should, helping it to retain valuable moisture, protect itself from external damage and balance sebum.
And they're incredible for delivering a combination of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins and lipids to your skin thanks to being packed full of nature’s finest, nutrient-rich botanical oils. But it is all about choosing the right, good quality oil ...
Our Organic Age-Defying Facial Oil has been specifically crafted to work with all skin types (yes, even oily skin!) to soften, smooth and balance the skin.
Like a superfood for your complexion, it’s packed with 20 botanical oils to deliver all sorts of high-powered nutrition. Think omega fatty acids, vitamins A, C and E, antioxidants and minerals galore.
The Benefits: A stronger, healthier skin barrier. must-have for plumping and firming, smoothing lines and wrinkles, easing dark spots, and thanks to its rich vitamin C content, it's ace for brightening your complexion too. Dehydrated or dry skin? You need this facial oil in your regime pronto to lock in moisture!
How To Use Your Facial Oil?
Due to their molecular structure, oils will always be the heaviest product in your skincare regime and this means they should always be applied last, after serum and moisturiser. But BEFORE your Organic Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 25 [or your sun protection of choice - SPF should be your final product applied]. And go easy ... just two to three drops will be plenty - massaged between your hands and patted into your face and neck gently.
Serums are a fantastic addition to any skincare routine – whether your skin is dry, oily, sensitive, dehydrated, tired, dull or a combination of the lot!
Unlike oils, face serums are light, water-based liquids packed with concentrated active ingredients. Thanks to their thin consistency, serums are designed to deeply penetrate your skin which makes them ideal for delivering ingredients like retinol, vitamins and exfoliating acids exactly where your skin needs them.
The Benefits: Due to their low molecular structure and light consistency, serums are able to dig deep to target fine lines and wrinkles through to dark spots, rough texture, dehydration and dull skin. The right serum can instantly make your skin feel plumper, softer and supple ...
Our Pre-Eminent Beauty Serum contains an incredible cocktail of potent ingredients like hyaluronic acid for hydration, retinol for collagen-building, exfoliating fruit acids and protective antioxidants.
This makes it a pretty unbeatable choice for dealing with the signs of ageing while strengthening, fortifying and brightening your skin.
Thanks to it's hyaluronic acid content, Pre-Eminent Beauty Serum draws water to your skin cells, instantly plumping and smoothing your skin. And your facial oil will help to lock in this important moisture. See how they work together?
How To Use Your Serum?
Serums are thin, so always apply before your moisturiser otherwise it won’t be able to penetrate your skin to the best of its abilities. Morning and night, apply a small, pea-sized amount of Pre-Eminent Beauty Serum to freshly cleansed skin with the pads of your fingers, using a patting rather than a massaging motion. This is less damaging on your skin. Always follow with a good moisturiser or your Organic Age-Defying Facial Oil. Imperial Moisturiser, Night Elixir and Organic Hydration Gel are all fantastic options that work in conjunction too.
Skincare packaging always includes instructions for use, so don’t dismiss them.
These have been included for a reason; to inform you on how best to use your product for the most effective results.
If a product recommends using one pump twice daily, switching it up to two pumps once a day is not going to give you the same results. It just won’t.
In fact, it will likely set you back, leading to irritations, breakouts and even flakiness.
If your skin is dry, applying double the amount of face cream is not going to give you more moisturised skin. In fact, it’s just wasteful. If you feel like your skin needs more moisturisation, you’ve most likely got the wrong product or could benefit from adding a pre-moisturising serum or facial oil to your routine, instead.
Similarly, if you have oily skin, don’t scrimp on face cream simply because the wrong formulation is making your skin feel weighed down with product.
Switch to a lighter moisturiser, perhaps Organic Hydration Gel, and use the correct amount as directed.
And don’t forget, a facial oil can actually help counteract overproduction of sebum, soo don’t fear it – try it and see.
Don't be tempted to wash your hands after applying your skincare!
If you do end up with too much moisturiser, serum or facial oil on your hands (it’s OK, it happens), apply any excess to your neck, décolletage, backs of your hands or elbows.
In fact, any area of skin you can reach will love you for it!
Spreading the anti-ageing love is way better than overloading and damaging the skin on your face.
